Care & Healing
Caring for Your Piercing
A well-cared-for piercing heals better and faster. Here is our general care advice. It does not replace the advice of your professional piercer or a doctor, particularly in the event of pain, persistent redness or unusual discharge.
Daily Cleaning
- Always wash your hands before touching your piercing.
- Clean the area once or twice a day with a sterile saline solution (physiological saline) or a mild antibacterial soap.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry gently with a disposable tissue – avoid fabric towels, which harbour bacteria.
- Before inserting new jewellery, clean it with lukewarm water and a little antibacterial soap. Do not use alcohol.
What to Avoid During Healing
- Don't twist or handle the jewellery unnecessarily.
- Avoid 90% alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and harsh chemicals, which irritate the skin.
- Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas and long baths until the piercing has healed.
- Don't change the jewellery too soon: wait until healing is complete.
Approximate Healing Times
| Area | Average healing time |
| Earlobe | 6 – 8 weeks |
| Helix / cartilage | 3 – 9 months |
| Nostril | 2 – 4 months |
| Septum | 6 – 8 weeks |
| Lip / labret | 2 – 3 months |
| Eyebrow | 2 – 3 months |
| Belly button | 6 – 12 months |
When Should You Seek Advice?
Slight redness, swelling and clear discharge are normal in the first few days. See a healthcare professional if you notice: severe pain, localised heat, yellowish or greenish discharge, or fever.
Choosing a Suitable Material
For sensitive skin and fresh piercings, opt for biocompatible materials: solid gold, titanium or bioflex. Our gold and bioflex jewellery is designed to limit allergic reactions.
